Mustard Seed

DAY 27

Pastor Matt Mosler

Scripture

Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”

- Luke 13:18-19

The parable of the mustard seed is a continuation of learning to understand the importance that the rule and reign of the Lord in our lives is not just for the hereafter, but also for the here and now. Pastor Matt compares the mustard seed of the Middle East to the South’s kudzu vine: it will take over if you let it!

The Kingdom of God is like that. It’s not meant to be contained in your backyard. It’s intended to spread through our families, our communities, our nation, and the world! In the same way, the lordship of Christ is crucial in every area of our lives—physically, emotionally, politically, spiritually, financially, relationally, and everywhere else!

Pastor Matt reminds us of a promise in 2 Peter 1:3-4, that God has given us everything pertaining to life and godliness; granting us great and precious promises; blessing us with the privilege of sharing in His divine nature. We are grafted into God’s covenant family, joint heirs of the Kingdom of God through Christ. Because of our new standing and position, we carry the same responsibility to expand God’s Kingdom through our love for Him to others.

Question: Have you been keeping your relationship with God a secret from your friends and neighbors?

Family Chat: Here is a challenge for you: tell two people about your relationship with Jesus by the end of the day. Will you accept that challenge?

Take Action: Today, tell someone about anything God has done for you.
