“Blessed is the one who hears the Word of God and keeps it.” - Luke 11:28
Have you ever noticed that we're living in a culture built around cults of personality? Everything in sports, politics, and movies focuses on forming cults of personality—building a following or belief system around the power of one person’s personality. Jesus addressed this challenge from those who wanted to formulate a cult of personality around Him.
Jesus responded to the woman who declared Him as the agent of God’s redemption by refusing to let people build a cult of personality around Him. He always withdrew when He was the most popular. Instead of accepting the spotlight for Himself, Jesus wanted His movement to be about those who heard the Word of God and kept it.
Think about it. Are we interested in creating a cult of Jesus's personality, or are we interested in being a community that actively pursues hearing God’s Word and keeping it? That’s the kind of community He calls blessed!
Question: Are you tuning in to the Holy Spirit, paying close attention to His leading?
Prayer Starter: Jesus, Your Word promises in Isaiah 30:21 that we will hear a voice behind us saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” I invite You to speak to me today, leading me. Help me to discern Your voice above all others, so I can obey You when I hear You speak.
Family Chat: Today, ask God to show you where He is. He might talk to you in a sunset, through a friend, or while you are going to bed. Tomorrow, share with your family where He was and what He said.
Take Action: Invite the Holy Spirit to walk through your day with you. Listen closely to the whisper of His direction and do what He says. This week, challenge yourself to memorize Galatians 5:22-23. The voice of God will never contradict the character and nature of God as He has revealed Himself to you in His word.
